GuessOff has not launched. This document is a working draft written alongside the product spec and must be reviewed by a Kenyan-qualified lawyer, and the service licensed by the BCLB, before any real money changes hands.

Terms of Service

1. What GuessOff is

GuessOff is a competitive word-deduction game. Two players each choose a secret five-letter word and take turns deducing the other's. Outcomes are determined by the players' own choices, timing and reasoning — not by chance. Matches are decided by a server-authoritative game engine that both players are subject to equally.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must be resident in a jurisdiction where paid skill contests are lawful.
  • One account per person. Multiple accounts used to manipulate matchmaking or ratings will be closed.

3. Your handle

We assign you a randomly generated handle when you first sign in. You may change it in settings. Your handle is public — it appears on leaderboards and to opponents. Your real name and email address are never shown to other players.

4. Stakes, pots and fees

  • A duel costs KSh 20 per player. Both stakes are held in escrow for the duration of the match.
  • The winner receives the full KSh 40 pot. We take no cut of a duel.
  • Tournament entry is KSh 100, from which we retain a 10% rake. The rest is paid out as prizes.
  • Challenge matches between friends and practice matches against the bot are unrated. Practice is free.
  • Minimum deposit is KSh 100. Minimum withdrawal is KSh 1,000, subject to a KSh 25 handling fee plus the mobile-money transfer cost.
  • Payment-processing fees on deposits are charged to you and shown before you confirm.

5. Match conduct

  • Each player has 60 seconds in total, chess-clock style. Only the player on turn has their clock running.
  • Running out of time loses the match and the stake.
  • Disconnecting does not pause your clock. If both players abandon a match, both stakes are refunded.
  • Using software to solve, automate or assist your play is prohibited and forfeits the match and the stake.
  • Colluding with an opponent to move funds between accounts is prohibited and will result in closure and forfeiture.

6. Results are final

The server decides every outcome: whose turn it is, whether a letter is present, whether a word is valid, who won, and what the clock reads. Client-side displays are informational. Where they disagree, the server's record governs. We will investigate suspected engine faults and correct genuine errors, including reversing affected settlements.

7. Your account and funds

  • Balances are held in Kenyan shillings and are not interest-bearing.
  • You may withdraw available funds at any time, subject to the minimums above and any verification we are legally required to perform.
  • Funds staked in a live match are unavailable until it settles.
  • We may suspend an account while investigating suspected fraud, collusion or automated play.

8. Closing your account

You may close your account at any time from settings. We will pay out any available balance to your registered mobile-money number. We retain financial records for the period required by Kenyan law, and anonymise the rest of your profile.

9. Changes

We may change these terms. Material changes — anything affecting stakes, fees, payouts or your funds — will be notified in the app before they take effect, and you will have the opportunity to withdraw your balance first.
